AirPods Max Head Detection not working

No, I did the same thing, but it does not help. The AirPods Max are basically useless. It does not even recognize that I have them on my head. Even though I see it connected in Settings and in the animated popup on the screen, there is NO SOUND. No beeps when I switch from transparent to other settings. Nada. This is the worst piece of Apple hardware ever.

After a week out of the box ear detection not recognising when being worn, reboot solved. At 2 weeks old Bluetooth connectivity fail device not found, factory reset solved this. After 3weeks button stopped working. Bluetooth not working. I am currently awaiting a repair.

I had the same problem and I understand that it's very frustrating, what you can do is hard-reset them:

to do so press and hold the digital crown and the side button until it starts flashing white, it'll first flash orange (don't let go when it does), after that, you can release the buttons and pair your AirPods to your device as you did for the first time.

if you come across any other problem I recommend you do this again, it solved most the issues mine had

had same problem. reset them and it didnt work. i factory reset them 3 times and it finally worked. Outstanding apple. Spent $600 bucks upgrading from my pros to this? never had this problem with gen 2 or my pros.

Same thing happened to me, second week of owning them! The only way I could get it to work was by going into its settings and manually turning off automatic head detection. This requires the pods to still connect to Bluetooth, but it's working for me right now.

I love these headphones but they do come with some inconvenient problems that I hope Apple can fix in later updates.

Update : sent to apple for repair. Got them back and having the same problem again day after i got them back (5/6) Waiting on a replacement pair but no eta. outstanding

Still not working for mine. Even though the bottoms and lighting are functioning, the headphone just failed to make a single sound.

Louistu7767 did you try factory reset holding down crown and button simultaneously until lights blink white? I received a new replacement set and so far so good.

Thank you. It's finally solved, even though after 2 tries. For the first time, the connection solely lasted for a few seconds. At least I don't need to go to Genius Bar.

By the way, do you have any idea what caused this problem?

At a guess condensation. Surprisingly I haven’t noticed any condensation in replacement set unlike originals.
