can't delete messages on Mac

how do I delete a message in messages there's no x. when I used to go to delete a message there was an x to click and delete the message but there isn't one any more

Right-click a message or a conversation and click Delete.

if you have a Macbook hover your mouse over the person you want to delete chats with, place 2 fingers on the trackpad and slide to the left you will see red button with a trash can, click it
