Need Help with 2TB iCloud Account that stops at 250GB

I have a 2TB iCloud account. It has reached about 1/8 of that capacity (257gb) and is not able to store more. I have worked with Apple support on this issue for 2 weeks last year and basically just gave up as they could not figure it out but always suggested something else like logging out of all accounts and logging in again, removing some items, etc, etc. It was never fixed.

Now when I try to get support on the same issue I see that I must either have a device that is less than one year old or pay for Apple support. Meanwhile, I continue to pay a monthly iCloud subscription.

Can someone suggest some steps that will once and for all fix this issue? All my Apple devices (iphone, ipad, macbook) have upgraded iOS and OS.

Thank you.

Can anyone suggest a substitute for iCloud -- preferably something that works :-)

iCloud is not an independent, off computer storage facility. It's a syncing feature so multiple Macs can have the same files, i.e. Documents and Desktop folder contents, on all Macs. Any file in the iCloud is mirrored on the Macs. So if you don't have enough free space on your Macs to house all of the files you'll get the "Out of Space" warning.

You may have to enable "Optimize Mac Storage" on all devices so they can hold all of the files, even if it's in optimized format.
