Yes what? To upGrade to a newer version of macOS will totally depend on the Age of the computer. About This Mac from the Apple Icon on Desktop will tell you that information. This Link to take you to How to get an Older Version of macOS. You the User will have to research which version of macOS this computer qualifies for. to upGrade. Once you the User have decided - open the Links in the Next page using Only Safari as FF / Chrome will not work.

Very Important - Make a Time Machine Backup Before attempting the upgrade. Also, depending on what version is going to be upgraded to - Applications may require updates / upgrade to make them compatible with the new OS. AND, if moving up to Catalina / Big Sur - they do not support anything 32 Bit and Only Support 64 Bit Applications and extensions.

Lastly - Are there any AntiVirus, Disk Cleaner, Optimizers, Defrag, VPNs etc installed which should be removed as per Developers Instructions. They are useless, unneeded, cause havoc and interfere with the normal operation of the OS. The Built-in Security of Big Sur / Catalina, Mojave is all that is required.
