my child cannot sign into Imessage

My daughter wants to send a message to her friend. For some reason iMessage is asking to sign with her Apple ID but won't let us type in the password. I have disabled her downtime and she has access to iMessage but she still cannot get in. She has used it previously too. FaceTime and Mail are working... Any Ideas?
