Using  Apple Pay and being asked for pin

I used Apple Pay on my apple watch at H&M yesterday and POS machine asked for PIN. That’s my first time being asked for PIN. I fumbled. What’s my pin ?? I’ve never used any pin using Apple Pay before .. I ended up paying cash .
