Data migration seems to stuck on checking old MacBook Pro message. How do I get past this?

I am trying to migrate data from an old MacBook Pro to a 2020 model. The migration seems to be stuck with a message that it is checking the old MacBook Pro. How do I get past this?

Hi there, coltim!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you have an issue with your migration getting stuck when moving to a new computer. Depending on how much content you're transferring to your new Mac, it can take several hours for the transfer to complete. Since process has become stuck, we suggest connecting your Mac computers to your network via Ethernet, restarting both computers, and then attempting the process again.
