How do I unlock my iPad after I have forgotten the passcode?

I have tried the holding power button to turn off to be able to try and reset it from my Mac (restore), but the power button isn't even bringing an option to turn it off. It was totally dead and I charged it, so this is the first startup when it is being charged after battery dies completely. Is there another way to turn it off, cause the power button isn't working.
