worth fixing Ipad Mini 1st gen

My son has been using his iPad mini 1st gen to FaceTime with friends while playing Roblox with them on his Ipad 4. The screen has been cracked forever but it has been serving us during this crazy time. Until recently when it stopped responding to touch except for in certain areas and when held in certain ways. I called UBreakIFix in my neighborhood. $99 for a new "glass digitizer" was the quote over the phone. It is a 16 GB and seems to do ok with web searches as well as FaceTime calls even though it isn't cellular. It connects to my account when on same internet... I'm thinking it is worth fixing but don't want to pay to fix and be disappointed after... like if out of date software keeps it from suddenly connecting to wifi and be of any use... any advice?

These old iPads are fast approaching 9 and 10-years old, now.

It's 2021 now.

It's NOT worth the costs to repair.

Use that money toward a new or much “newer”, used iPad model capable of running the current iPadOS 14.4, from better known, trusted Apple product/device retailers/resellers.

There are plenty of newer, older iPad models that can run the latest, current versions of iPadOS.
