Just bought a App Store & iTunes card and it doesn’t work

Troubleshooting this:


I. You Need to Contact the Seller:

Whomever the seller is, ask them for a proof of purchase.


II. Where was the Purchased?

A. Online?:

If this was purchased online (i.e. eBay) then contact the site, seeing if the seller can be accountable and if you can get your money back.


B. In-Person?:

If this as purchased in person, then there may be nothing you can do but contact them, asking for your money back.


Or...


C. A Retailer?:

If purchased at a retailer, take it back, asking what your options are for return. Gift Card return policies vary by rules of law. So, take to the Manager, asking if you can get a new card.


III. Avoiding Scams:

In all recommend getting it at a retailer - that way you can easily avoid scams. Getting it online might result in scams (and plenty are reported). So, go to a retailer, and then add it to your Apple Account right then-and-there after the transaction goes through at the cash register. It'd be more safe, from what read on these forums.

The link I provided, and which was also included in another post after mine, also guides you through various reasons and solutions for problems redeeming a card. I just figured that providing you with the main link would be sufficient rather than posting it all again here. However, I should provide you with a short summary of that document and direct links to individual sections from which you can select your issue:


Card is not valid

Card has already been redeemed

Card is not activated

Code is unreadable

Code must be redeemed in a different country or region


Also note there's several kinds of gift card fraud. Here's a link to what Apple says if you cannot redeem a card:

Unfortunately you kind of get caught in the middle as each company tells you to go to the other. :-(


You can also report fraud to the police and see if they will discuss the problem with the card company and vendors involved.


In future try to redeem cards the instant you have purchased it. I usually do it in the store immediately after having paid for the card should I need to approach the store's customer service about a problem.
