iTunes update time

Kind of have my answer. The update finished a few minutes after I posted my question. But to be specific to your quick response: it was about the software on the Mac. Only that. I got a banner saying that an update of iTunes was required to connect with my iPad. I don't auto-sync contents (I like to manage everything manually; in "my world," different devices make use of different content), so it was a matter of waiting out the update without a progress bar; and as it turned out, without an automatic restart. All I'd get upon clicking the app icon was an alert that I couldn't use iTunes right then because it was still updating. And this kept happening until it didn't; and then iTunes opened. I guess the total time after the update downloaded was about ten minutes or less.
