iPad OS 14.4 Scrolling isn’t smooth Does not feels like before

After updating my iPad Pro 2nd gen. OS14.4 I noticed that the smooth and fast scrolling that has before has stopped.

At the beginning of scrolling on most of apps there are something like micro-freezes, gaps, stops (don’t know the exact word in english, not completely smooth) during scrolling, it’s not very easily noticed but if you have used it before the latest update 14.4 you can definitely feel it. Scrolling isn’t smooth any more.

Most of the times after some seconds of scrolling, become again smooth, but is very annoying at the beginning.

Anyone knows how can I fix it? Thank U

Hi, I believe this stutter problem is solved after the iPadOS 14.5 update!

You’re not the first to see this issue, introduced with iPadOS 14.4.

A system restart doesn’t appear to provide any beneficial relief from this issue. The stutter doesn’t just affect vertical scrolling, but also impacts left/right swipe - and will frequently affect one or other axis, but not both at the same time.

We remain hopeful that this issue will be resolved in a forthcoming update.

Try the new hard reset procedure for the 2018/2020 iPad Pro models without a Home button.

1. Press and release the volume UP button.

2. Then immediately press and release the volume DOWN button.

3. Then, press and hold the Power button at the top. You will see the Slide to Power off button, but keep on holding down the Power button until you see the Apple logo, then let it go.

Once you have performed all the steps, wait for a few seconds and your iPad Pro will boot up completely to the iPad Pro’s Lock screen.

Good Luck!

Thank you Michel,

It’s iPad Pro (2nd gen) 2020 11-inch

But I noticed that on iPhone too. I’m surprised no one else here noticed it.

As until now I had no answers here to such a serious issue I search more and found a conversation in MacRumors “iPad Pro 10.5 jerky scrolling in iOS 14.4“ which is exactly what I mean.

That link you posted was for older 10.5 inch screen iPad Pro, by the way.

Not sure why your much newer iPad Pro is experiencing this same issue scrolling lag/stutter issue.

I own two, 2015/2016 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro models, runnung iPadOS 14.4, and I am not experiencing any stuttering scrolling issues, at all.

Scrolling works as it always has with no lag or stutter.

So, I am at a loss for an explanation as to why this exists on your much newer and more powerful iPad Pro model.

You are, basically, the first user to report this.

I am present here everyday and have not seen any other postings about this issue on any iPad models.

Not even for the 2017, 10.5 inch screen iPad Pro or iPad Air 3/4 models.

Did I miss posts here, about this, in the communities?
I am here eveyday, like you, and have not seen this reported anywhere.

Perhaps you have missed them. Reports are perhaps not as regular as those relating to other issues, but they have certainly appeared. Other forums similarly document occurrence of the issue.

Whilst this is an acute problem that significantly impacts screen performance, the problem is not continuous..
