How to get phone unlocked by apple to use with verizon

Moved from Japan and with two iPhone 11's, bought them outright and they are unlocked by Japan AU carrier. Trying to get Verizon but they say the phones aren't compatible with their network. Is there a way to get the phones unlocked to use with Verizon's network?

iPhone 11, iOS 14

Apple does not unlock phones at all.

Only the carrier it's locked to can unlock it. If you purchased unlocked phones, the problem is not that they are carrier locked, the problem is that either they are not compatible with Verizon's network (Verizon is a CDMA carrier) or that Verizon has chosen not to allow those phones on their network.

I'm betting on the latter. Verizon is not obligated to let you bring your phones from Japan to the Verizon network. They are notorious for refusing to activate phones on their network that were purchased elsewhere.

Try AT&T or T-Mobile instead.
