The preview pane for each message in mail has disappeared and I don't know how to restore it. The text is available but not the content. Please help.

The mail I receive only has the text, and not a preview of the contents. How do I get the preview of the email back on the screen automatically, without having to double click on the message to open it?

Hover the cursor over the right edge of the Mail window until you see a left pointing arrow cursor. Then claick and drag to the left until the preview window pops open. It does not slide open. Drag at least half the width of the window.
