Numbers: summing categories sub total

Hello

I have a simple table. I have created a category "month" using the column with dates, and subtotals in the categories with values.

The year has just began, so my table will grow, and the subtotals will be updated. Perfect.

I would like now to have a row with the grand total, that would be updated every time I add a new value, like the subtotals are updated. Is there a way to do that ?

Thanks

Yes, as Barry suggests, you can turn off Categories using the 'switch' in the right sidebar, then add a Footer Row at the bottom of your table. In the relevant column on that row add the formula =SUM(B) are a letter for whatever column you are summing. Then switch Categories back on.

If you click the cell with the SUM function you will see lower left that it's formula will appear as:

Switch of Categories to add new values in the body of the table and then switch them back on again. The Subtotals and Total will update automatically.

Add a Footer row to your table.

In the Footer cell of column C (for example) enter the formula SUM(C).

You may also, with some exploration, find a setting in Categories to include a grand total.

My Numbers version predates the introduction of Categories, but I expect someone with a more recent version will provide more definitive information regarding that possibility.

There is no grand total function in the current version of Numbers.

But you can mimic it by adding a column to the end of your table and name it “All” or any similar name. Then populate all the cells in the column with the text “Total”.

You can then categorise on that column and “Total” will appear as the value for the category.

You can then add what function you require (Sum, Count etc).

This will show the Grand total for all the rows in the table.

The only limitation is that it will a
