MacBook Pro 13 - Black Screen on Powerup - No 2nd Chime on PRAM Reset
I do not have a knowledgable background for fixing computers, so any help or guidance welcome!! Details on the laptop at the bottom for easy reference to my issue up top.
MacBook Pro 13 - The Issue:
When pressing power button, you hear the first chime. Keyboard responds, lights up. Recieving power normally, according the to power light. Back apple lights up fully and brightly. You can also tell when it actually turns on. While it appears like a black screen, it becomes a "lit-up" black screen, if that makes sense.
All sound is up, Caps is turned off, and display brightness at full.
What I've Tried:
- Normal Reset
- Draining Battery and recharging
- typing in password to login once rebooted (even though screen is black)
- Forced Power hold shut down for 10 seconds, restart
- Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds. Press and release the power button, then immediately press and hold Command (⌘)-R until you see an Apple logo or other image. I didn't see an Apple logo, continued to lit up black screen.
- Pressing the power button once then press the S key, and then waiting to repower
- Tried resetting the SMC
- Attempted to start in safe mode, still nothing appears on screen (haven't seen an icon or cursor at all since issue started happening)
- ...and a couple random things online, but I'm stuck on the PRAM reset - and yes, I'm probably calling this the incorrect terminology, but please no teasing hahaha
Command with PRAM Reset Issue:
"To reset the PRAM, power on your Mac and as soon as you hear the startup chime, hold the Command+Option+P+R keys. Wait until you hear the chime a second time and then let go of the keys. Let the Mac boot and see if the black screen is fixed."
When I do this, it takes awhile for the "lit" black screen to appear again, but there is never a second chime after the first one. I've held it for up to 5 minutes before I'm thinking, ok, something isn't working here correctly for the command. I've also tried this after letting the computer charge or rest for a day in between. I'm not even sure if that does anything, but in case it does make a difference, I did that :)
Any ideas? Thank you in advance!
Laptop History
Fairly straitforward. I bought it new, and have had it serviced here and there.
It has had a black screen in the past, but a fully dead one (I think it was a power or battery issue that time) and also the the stuck wheel on startup, but I've always taken in to get it fixed, and they have quickly.
I did have issues with the battery maybe a year or so ago, but that was also fixed. Other than that, no history of any water damage or viruses. She is a stay at home laptop now in her older years, and gets limited wear and tear. I have had macs in the past that fully just go out, but this is driving me nuts since everything, except the screen imagery itself, appears to be booting up.
