Military deployment help!!

I have an iPhone 11 and an external hard drive With Digital movies on it. During my deployments can I connect my external hard drive directly to my phone and access the movies that are on it to watch on my phone. I will have no internet or cell service since I’m on submarines underwater. I know I will have to buy an adapter so I can connect to a USB but will it read it. If it’s formatted for windows. I can reformat it without losing all my movies

Hi - Does it have a separate power supply? You won't be able to power it from the iphone.

Everything I've read suggests it should work - best thing to do is get the lightning to USB3 adapter, and try it.

The article here, also states that the windows ExFAT and Fat32 formats are readable, and tells you what adapter to get.
