Microphone for third party apps

I recently bought an iPhone 8 to realise the microphone was broken. A few weeks later I realised that is was only not working for third party apps. It sounds muffled and it’s very frustrating. I have tried everything and looked everywhere but I have not found a solution. Can anyone help??
