Can Apple factory reset an Apple Watch If I have the proof of purchase?

I bought an Apple Watch on my Apple Card as a gift for my girlfriend. We broke up and she gave me back the watch, but not the passcode. Can I bring it to the apple store with proof of purchase for a factory reset? I hate to waste the money I spent.
