upgrade from OS 10.9.5 to latest compatible OS MacBook Pro late 2011

Thanks for the suggestion, however when I clicked the link to download High Sierra I was taken to Itunes and got a message saying that the product isn't available in the US store. I don't know why I connected to the US Store as I bought my Mac in Europe not the US.

I have an iMAC running OS Sierra 10.12.6; would it somehow be possible to copy the OS from the iMAC to the MacBook?

Using Safari I managed to go to the link and opened the App Store - but very strangely it said that Sierra is installed but, as you can see from the attached screen shot, the OS installed is 10.9.5. Any idea how to resolve this?

Success! Thank you very much Niel. I had expected the installer to appear on the desktop not in the applications folder.
