Upgrading Mac OS X 10.5.8
Is it possible? Would like to use an old MacBook but can’t even update browsers, even the Apple.com page will not load. Or is it just obsolete and needs to be recycled? Any advice would be appreciated!

Your Mac maybe too old to upgrade past OS X 10.5.8 Leopard.
For third party Web browsers for that old a Mac and MacOS X.
Look at TenFourFox.
Tap the link below.
First things first, check the maximum supported macOS or OS X on your machine, get a install USB or DVD for the operating system and a second USB to back up important files you don’t want to lose!
I apologise for the mis understanding, what I meant was purchase a new disc with a new OS, according to the internet, you can put up to Mac OS X 10.11 on there, however I would double check before you buy that disc!
After you buy that disc, you should install it in your computer as if you were doing a re-install!
Do you mean try to reinstall the OS? I have all the original manuals and discs. I checked for software updates and it said it is up to date. This is a macbook (5,1)
