Macbook pro 2018 with bootcamp

Hello,

We have a Macbook pro 16 inch from 2018 on which we installed it with bootcamp and it seems to be working fine but then i checked the device manager there is the device ACPI\INT34BA which is marked as unknown, so i google and i found this thread:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8553213?page=4

In that thread an Apple engineer says that it is related to a certain T2 device that is unsupported on windows, and that using windows with bootcamp on Macs from 2018 is slower and can even cause damage by warping the board because of heat.

I'd like to know if it's safe to use windows on the macbook pro 2018 or if there are other ways to run a full windows application on mac. thanks

MacBook

The only 16-in MBP is MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) - Technical Specifications, which is 2019, not 2018. Apple does not have a 2018/2020 16-in model, which seems to indicate that that specific model is no longer being produced.

With all the known issues with that specific model, including GPU, BT and WiFi, my recommendation is to get Apple Care, if you do not have it already have it.

As far as heat and logic board warping is concerned, it is not a Apple T2-specific issue, but alludes to the 16-in model only. I understand Dubayy2020’s comment regarding heat/warping, but it can happen to other models as well. Normally Apple 'Engineers' do not comment on ASC discussions, even if they may be reading them.

If you are concerned about running Windows and the unknown devices, one option is to run Windows as a Virtual Machine, which may have fewer issues. This will not provide native performance, but may be sufficient for your needs, if it is not a heavy CPU/GPU workload. Windows typically runs a bit hotter on Macs, then macOS.
