iPad flashing logo

My 1 1/2 year old iPad is flashing the Apple logo repeatedly alternating with black screen. I had plugged it in for charging with the plug and charging cord it came with and it started flashing right away. It did have about 30% battery life when I plugged it in. Lately I have noticed the plug is getting quite warm when charging and last night the iPad also felt warm.


What is going on and what is the fix, please?!

You might attempt a forced-restart of your iPad:


  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.




Note: If iPad still doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen.


If the restart does not resolve the apparent boot-loop, you’ll need to seek assistance directly from Apple Support - or the technicians at the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP).
