Yes - Two more thoughts...

A. Restore from a Backup:

Have you recently created a backup of your Mac prior to all of this? if so, restore from the backup. If not, then take this as a learning experience, knowing to always backup your Mac, prior making any major change to your device, such as an upgrade.

B. If No Backup Exists:

If you have no pre-Catalina backup of you Mac, then you would install the macOS anew:

  1. Backup: you Mac
  2. Boot: into Recovery Mode [Hold Down command R] upon boot
  3. Erase: the hard rive
  4. Install: macOS with a USB Bootable Installer
  5. Migrate: data from Time Machine Backup created in Step 1

"iCloud desktop missing on MacBook pro?: No recent back up. [...]Didn’t do any changes. I turned my mac off and back on and when it came back on the icons were missing. It also takes about 5 mins from power on to get to log in screen then once I log in it take 5 mins to get to desktop. [...] Running the latest and have been running the same OS for 3 yeara"

Where to go from here....

Reinstall the macOS anew:

The install would have nothing on it, but the macOS. Back up your Mac prior to erasing it. Once erased, get it back on there through use of migration assistant.

In Depth:

  1. Back Up: your Mac
  2. Boot: into Recovery Mode [Hold Down command R] upon boot
  3. Erase: the hard rive
  4. Install: macOS with a USB Bootable Installer
  5. Migrate: data from Time Machine Backup created in Step 1
