MacBook Air Purchase

Considering purchasing a MacBook Air with the new M1 Chip. Looking for positive or negative feedback . Need it for travel and will be doing photo editing and working on Word Docs. Unclear as to whether I can use the 7 Core GPU or need the 8 Core GPU.

I strongly suggest getting the 8 core GPU if you are doing photo

editing.

I bought mine back in November and I am very pleased with the

performance and that extra GPU core helps to kick up many

of my apps a notch or two. Plus, the 512 GB drive gives ample

disk space to work with.

FWIW, my photo work is processing RAW images from a Nikon D7500

and use Adobe Bridge 2021 for photo management (as long as Adobe

keeps it free), DxO PhotoLab 4 for RAW processing, Affinity Photo for

"tweaks" and creating panoramas (which is M1 native), and occasionally

using Topaz Studio and EasyHDR3 for special images. All of these apps

are very "zippy" on the 8 core GPU.

I have had mine for just 3 days but love it.

It seems so much slicker than a windows system and has a great build quality.

I too, bought mine with the intention of doing some light photo editing as well as general web browsing and streaming movies.

I opted for the 8 core GPU and 512mb drive.

It does not cost that much more for the extra graphics memory so it is just as well to get it to future proof things a little for yourself.

Who knows, but 6 months down the line you may end up needing it.

I haven't added Word yet but rest assured that typing on the MacBook Air is a breeze! The keyboard is beautiful.
