an esim of a carrier, at the same time with a physical sim of a different carrier?

Yes it is possible and Yes it works. You can use two different carriers on two SIMs (One Physical SIM and One eSIM). There is one thing that you need to be sure about and that is that make sure that your iPhone is carrier UNLOCKED so two different carrier can work on your iPhone.
