How does family sharing work

My wife and I each have our own Apple ID, email, picture file, documents, etc. Neither of us do any of the music, books, movies, or purchased apps offered by Apple (I have photoshop & ms office for Mac). Each has a $1/mo iCloud plan and separate Mac devices (she a MacBook & me an iMac). In the process of trying to streamline things as we get older and spend more time on the traveling road, but wanting to be able to access all we want whenever. I plan to upgrade to 200gig iCloud plan so I can upload everything of importance saved on iMac and would like to use that single 200gig plan for my wife’s approx 30gig of information.

what I read about family sharing tends to be all about Apple Music while we just want to store and access our separate documents, emails & pictures. Can anyone direct me to a page that defines what & how family share works beyond the mumbo-jumbo of Apple-talk?

The following has information that may help: Share an iCloud storage plan with your family - Apple Support

Note that it is essentially a single billing for a 200GB or larger plan and that you each continue to use your own Apple ID for iCloud and that your photos and documents are still private. Either one of you can use any of the unused storage. Also see the following from the above link:

When you share a storage plan, your photos and documents stay private and everyone keeps using their own accounts with iCloud—just like when you have your own storage plan. You simply share the space available in the iCloud storage plan with your family members, so you only have one plan to manage.
