Hi everyone! I am really desperate. I have spent hours, days, weeks and even month trying to fix the problem, with everything that has been suggested on the web. Now I am taking a chance here to ask if anyone would have encountered the same problem having a message : "The document “..............” could not be opened. Permission denied. Libraries require read and write permission, or “name of the library” is already in use by “name of the user” on “name of the computer.local”.

In the info window, I have made "read and write permissions" for all and applied them, as well as have checked "ignore ownership on this volume". I have ran disk utility on the system hard drive, as well as on the external hard drive (including subfolders) where my libraries are... I am desperate. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you in advance!

Hi Luis,

Thanks again for your reply.

You have asked the right question: "how much free space?". My disk was full, and someone else said that this might be the problem, and indeed it was. After removing a library out of the external disk and making more available space on it, I was finally able to open my other libraries! Phew!

I was too much relying on the message and focusing on its meaning ("The document “..............” could not be opened. Permission denied. Libraries require read and write permission, or “name of the library” is already in use by “name of the user” on “name of the computer.local”.

The message should have say instead your disk is too full to let you open libraries...

(btw, I have Etrecheck now and feel giving it a try soon, thanks for the tip)

I hope this can help others
