Out of date Apple Watch.

I have a iPhone 11 Pro Max and just got a series 5 watch. When I hold the watch Upto the camera it says “iPhone out of date, this Apple Watch requires a newer version of iOS”. But my iOS is currently 14.4 and Upto date??

Hello Coxy10k,

It sounds as though you're being prompted that an update is needed to complete pairing your Apple Watch. With the prompt that you're receiving it would be recommended to restart both your iPhone and Apple Watch. You can find the steps for restarting in the following article.

Restart your iPhone

How to restart your Apple Watch

If you continue to have issues after those steps you'll want to verify that Set Automatically is enabled in Settings > General > Date & Time on the companion iPhone, and that the date, time, and time zone are shown correctly. If the date, time, and time zone are correct try setting up the Apple Watch again. When setting up the Apple Watch do so as a new device.

Let us know how that goes.

I’m having the exact same issue. I’ve tried everything mentioned above and on many other sites. Even spend over 45 minutes with customer support and no resolution so far. Someone please help. I’ve tried on a different iPhone 11 and still would not work. I tried on a a slightly older iPhone. Still won’t work!! Keep getting stuck on the update failed. And the message disappears in seconds to. Or even allow to hit button to update. See messages.

please someone help me trying to setup a watch series 5
