Thunderbolt Card Reader

I've had this Thunderbolt card reader for several years with no issues. I just bought an 8GB PNY Optima SD HC card and the card will not mount on my macBook.

It mounts a 1 GB card and a 256MB card just fine. Opening up the system profiler with the 8GB card in the Thunderbolt in either USB slot, the Reader shows up but no information from the card displays. When I put the 1GB card in, the Profiler shows the reader AND the card information.

The 8GB card appears to work normally in the camera. I actually have two 8GB cards and they both have the same results.

What I'm wondering is, does this Thunderbolt card reader have a maximum size disk with which it works? I've googled my brains out to no avail. Do I merely have to go out and buy a newer card reader? Any answers???

thanks,

chas

Chas--

I can't say for sure--not having owned the unit in question--but my guess is that it does not recognize that large a card (in terms of memory). Some older cameras don't recognize a card of that size, either.

Card readers that do are pretty inexpensive (like between $10-$20 USD), and it might be time to try a new one.
