Photos app using Discrete (High-Performance) GPU

Every time I open the Photos app, my MacBook Pro 15’ immediately switches to the High-Performance GPU, which eats up a lot of battery, which gives me less time to edit and upload my photos to iCloud. Anybody experiencing this, and/or have suggestions/solutions? Thanks!

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.2

Hello, superstanley31!

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities! If we understand correctly, when you open the Photos app, High Performance GPU is enabled. We'd like to lend a hand so you can use your Mac without any trouble!

Have you had a chance to look over your graphics performance settings on your Mac? If not, we recommend doing this first so you can adjust the preferences for graphics switching:

You can also use the guidance in the following support article to help with apps and GPU usage:

Take care!
