If both the iPad and charger are getting uncomfortably hot, I suggest you contact Apple support via the contact support link located at the upper right hand corner of every Webpage of these Apple support communities.

Use the Device Performance and/or Connectivity support categories.

OR

by installing and using the Apple Support app found in the iOS App Store.

Tap the iOS App Store link below.

Not really.

You could try turning down your iPad's screen brightness to a much lower, but still comfortable viewing brightness, but this is about it!

Contact Apple. You do not need a possible fire.

Your new iPad could be defective.

DO NOT take chances with this iPad!

It should NOT be getting that hot and the power.charging adapter should NOT be getting uncomfortably hot, either!

If purchased locally from an Apple Store location, search online to locate and call contact your nearest, “local” Apple Store location to try/attempt to make an appointment to get your new Apple iPad Air 4 diagnosed and replaced with another new unit.

If you purchased this iPad from Apple, IF you have had this iPad for less than 14 days, you can return this iPad for another new unit, no questions asked.

If you had this iPad longer than 14 days you still need to either contact your local Apple Store or contact Apple support.

Look,

iPads can be defective from Apple.

Apple iPads can be defective from a reseller.

It has happened and many of us have seen it here from time to time.

You can try the new hard reset procedure for the 2018/2020 iPad Pro/iPad Air 4 models without a Home button.

1. Press and release the volume UP button.

2.Then immediately press and release the volume DOWN button.

3.Then, press and hold the Power button at the top.

You will see the Slide to Power off button, but keep on holding down the Power button until you see the Apple logo, then let it go.

Once you have performed all the steps, wait for a few seconds and your iPad Pro will boot up completely to the iPad Pro’s Lock screen.

BUT, I gave you the proper and prudent advice to follow.

Why take a chance.

If the device is getting too hot where you are worried about it, then it needs to be addressed, wheher you want to, or not!

Why are you putting this off?

CONTACT APPLE ALREADY!

Before you really have an issue and you either burn up your iPad or your burn up your power adapter and possibly cause a fire.

STOP PLAYING WITH THIS ISSUE AND GET SOME REAL ADVICE/HELP FROM ACTUAL APPLE SUPPORT EMPLOYEES ON THIS ISSUE.

From what you have described, this is NOT NORMAL, expected behaviour from ANY iPad model.

Contact Apple and get this issue sorted, already.

Please!
