Apple pencil 1 scribble

Hi, i recently purchased an ipad 8 and the apple pencil 1. I know that the iPadOS 14 has the scribble function for the apple oen il that converts handwriting to text, and i can’t find anywhere that this is only the case for apple pen 2 or an ipad air/pro. However, i dont have this feature on my ipad. Does it have to do with my ipad or is this function only for apple pen 2?

The scribble feature works with any version Pencil with any iPad compatible with iPadOS 14.

Your iPad 8th gen should be already running iPadOS 14.

Make sure the scribble feature is activated for your Pencil by going into the Settings app, Apple Pencil settings panel and toggle ON the scribble feature/function.

A forced-restart of your iPad may be beneficial - as this will often resolve an isolated software issue:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.
