My IMac is dated with a 10.13.6 original OS with updates but I need at least 10.14 to download a tax system. Is my mid-2014 IMac compatible with a more recent OS?

Can I upgrade my OS, 10.13.6 with upgrades to a more recent OS on my IMac?

Above is correct.

If you upgrade to Mojave macOS 10.14, your existing 32- and 64-bit apps will work.

If you upgrade to Catalina macOS 10.15 or Big Sur macOS 11, you will need to find upgrades or alternatives or retirements for your remaining 32-bit apps.

Tools to identify 32-bit apps include Go64.

Have one or more backups prior to the upgrade. Backups are your path to recovery, should the upgrade fail.
