Is it possible to retrieve imessage older than 5 years?

In order to retrieve an old message that is no longer on your iPhone, there would need to be a backup of the device it was on. That backup would then need to be restored.

If you are able to locate a backup that would have the old message, here is how to restore it: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support
Keep in mind that when you restore a backup, much of the current data on your iPhone will be replaced with the data from that backup.
