apple podcast app crashing

A few days ago, my Apple podcast app on my phone started closing itself after a second or so. I tried restarting my phone but it continued to close each time I opened it. After returning home I tried my ipad-same thing. But so far, podcasts still play on my macbook.

I have tried:

restarting both devices

deleting the app from both the phone and ipad and then adding it again

toggling airplane mode off and on

turning the wifi off and on on the devices

resetting the network settings on the phone

Wondering if anyone else has had this issue and how they solved it?!

I noticed that when I add the app back onto the devices, it is doesn't look like a brand new installation but rather from the cloud?
