Cannot drag files to finder sidebar favourites in Big Sur

Unlike many other Big Sur users, the favourites show perfectly in my Finder Sidebar, however it will only allow me to drag folders onto the sidebar, it no longer allows me to drag files (even though files that I previously aliased there from High Sierra and earlier still appear).

Anyone have a solution please?

iMac 27″, macOS 10.12

Are you pressing and holding the command key before and while selecting and dragging the file to the Favorites section of the sidebar?
