My daughters MacBook Air won't work - she charged it overnight and this morning the green charge light is on but the laptop won't power up - it is completely dead. I think it is pre 2018 model - possibly 2017 but dont have the details - as they are on the laptop.

Try this...
Press and hold down the Command (⌘) and Control (Ctrl)keys along with the power button (or the Touch ID / Eject button, depending on the Mac model) until the screen goes blank and the machine restarts.
