Trade-ins

Is it possible to trade in an iphone that doesn't work at all? Recently I accidentally dropped my iphone X and now it doesn't power on at all. I went to the apple store to seek help but even they couldn't fix the problem :(

They suggested that I get a new iphone since it wasnt possible to fix. I am thinking about geting a new iphone since I dont want an extra useless phone laying around the house. I ask if its possible to trade in a broken iphone and still get some kind of discount off my next purchce? I read on apples trade-in information page and said they'll accept any model and condition but I'm wondering if that means that they'll still add that discount? It'll mean the world to me of someone could answer my question!
