Can't update 1Password from the App Store

The App Store "can't update 1Password." At first it said it couldn't close it completely. Now it just "can't update it." For this problem I am using Mac Air with Big Sur 11.2.2. 1Password version 7.7. I have completely quit 1Password - including closing the one in the Menu Bar, closed Safari - closing its extension, rebooted, removed 1Password from the dock. Nothing works. I have left a message on the 1Password website. I am beginning to wonder - from reading the related articles here in my search - if it isn't the App Store with the glitch. What is going on? Now I'm wondering if I will have the same problem updating this on my Mac desktop.... I have used 1Password for years and have a subscription. What to do - other that wait at this point....

Same here. Macbook Air M1.

Solution:

went to the official 1password website, downloaded a copy and installed it. Without deleting the old one.

It just did the upgrade and update request is gone from the App store.

From the 1Password website -

If you see this message from the App Store, you won’t be able to update 1Password until you completely quit the app.

What you should do

To update 1Password, dismiss the message and completely quit the app:

  1. Click Cancel to dismiss the message.
  2. Quit 1Password completely:
    1. Open 1Password and click the 1Password menu.
    2. Hold down the Control and Option keys on your keyboard and select “Quit 1Password Completely”.
  3. Open the App Store and check for updates.

Alice here: I solved my problem. Not sure if it will work for anyone else, but here's what I did: I went to my iMac desktop, checked App Store and sure enough - that 1Password also needed an update. So I updated it successfully, completely quitting all 1Password apps including the one in the Menu Bar. 1Password then successfully updated on my iMac desktop. (7.8) Then I went back to my Mac Air. Where before - and a puzzlement to be sure - 1Password was also showing up in my App Store applications as being in iCloud as tho' I had deleted it - which I hadn't. Now, however after having successfully updated iMac, it showed up as just needing an update. Interesting. I held my breath and attempted to update yet again - and it DID ! Both iMac and MacAir 1Password apps are now 7.8. The glitch may have been in iCloud or the App Store. By syncing my other Mac, it cleared whatever was holding up the Mac Air 1P update. Anybody else have a problem like this? I'm not sure what I would have done without the iMac.
