How to fix glitched file in Final Cut Pro timeline?

Whenever I use an overlay effect in my Final Cut Pro x timeline, it completely glitches the file and comes up showing this. Does anybody have a solution? I can’t figure anything out to fix this and I have tons of footage to edit and these effects are very essential to the video.

Mac mini, macOS 10.13

Have you tried resetting FCP's preferences? To delete preferences, hold down command and option while launching FCPX and click Delete Preferences in the dialog that displays. FCP will open with a default Untitled library. Reopen the library you were working on and see if the problem is fixed. You'll need to reset your preferences back to the way you like them.

From their website, Cinepacks Paint FX Samples are 4K standalone videos to be used with blend modes. It does look strange. marcellusf2247 would it be possible to post more screen shots in the correct orientation so we don't have to crane our necks to see what's going on? What blend mode are you using for the Cinepacks clip?

As Tom said, since these are just plain QuickTIme movies they can live anywhere and probably shouldn't be inside the Motion Templates folder. Maybe a folder called something like Cinepacks Paint FX that all your projects can access.

Open one of your clips like DSC_0814 in the QuickTime player. Press Cmd-I for the Info window. Post a screenshot of everything it shows there. Do the same for for one of your overlay clips like 4K Film burn. Also, what are the project properties, frame size, frame rate? We need this information to be able to have an idea what can you do to fix this problem.

23.98. The samples are the same so that's alright. If transcoding the media doesn't help, then I can't see what's causing this. The Paint FX samples play alright with 40% speed and blend modes on 4K material. It may just be the machine, either a problem with it, or the shared graphics can't handle it, though it's not even rendering it correctly, so it may well be a hardware problem.

I bought some drag and drop plug ins that I use for my videos, but all of a sudden when I want to use one for a clip and place it over the clip it shows that. I tried several blend modes but keep coming out with the same result. I shoot all my videos in 24 fps 1080p. The effects used to work on my computer, I’m just confused as to why it doesn’t anymore.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been trying to find a solution but I can't. It's still doing the same thing and its very frustrating because I can't use a lot of my overlay media I downloaded from cinepacks. No matter what blend mode I change it to my files simply shows as if its damaged, Please can anybody help? I really don't want to have to buy another computer.

I didn’t start having this problem until I bought this computer, I have a Mac mini. All of the overlays used to work on my laptop and it’s frustrating because all these effects are suppose to be simple drag and drop effects and I’m confused why they won’t show. I tried talking to apple support on the phone and they couldn’t do anything because when I first started using Final Cut Pro it was already on a laptop that I bought from a guy. Long story short, when I got a new computer I simply put Final Cut Pro on a flash drive and transferred it over to my computer. Now i can never use overlays because they show up as so
