Cable connecting Macs to migrate data to new M1 Mac

From old Mac to new. It wasn't clear to me how migrating data is done with cabled Macs i.e. how do I ensure that they are indeed connected? I don't want them networked - or do I?

I want to move data from a 2008 MacBook Pro running MacOS El Capitan to a new MacBook Pro with the aid

of Migration Assistant but I assume it'll be faster to cable connect them vs. wifi.

Thanks for your help, Tom

Hi Tom Meade1,

We'd be happy to help with providing info on migrating data to your new Mac.

This page here can help provide all the needed steps towards using Migration Assistant to move the data: Move your content to a new Mac

With regards to the question on knowing if the Mac is connected, it would show up in the "Looking for sources" part of Migration Assistant, and then would allow you to continue to the next step. Depending on your Wi-Fi speeds and reliability, connecting the two Macs via a cable could be a better option, as you suspected.

Take care!
