Updating Macbook Pro 2015 from OS X Yosemite to Big Sur and Logic 9 to Logic Pro

Hi so my laptop hasn't been updated in a long while. I want to now download Logic Pro, i will look to update the laptop to Big Sur and then being the hopefully not to painful process of updating al the plugins in use.

I want to know the best way to go about this? Should i update to Big Sur first and then Logic?

Any ideas on what potential issues i can run into as well?

Thanks all!

Hi there,

if you have unfinished projects do not upgrade.

You would have to purchase Logic Pro X as there is no direct upgrade route from LP 9, it's only available on Mac App Store.

Make sure that your third party plug-ins are 100% compatible with the MacOS version that you want to upgrade to.

Be aware that 32 bit plug-ins won't work anymore above Mojave.

LP 9 and LPX are slightly different so if you use Logic for work make sure that you have the time to adjust to the changes.

Good luck,

A

It seems you don't get me? If you have been using that set up until now yes you might have unfinished projects. Dah or other people you might be collaborating with might use LP9 or so.......

You need to find out in advance if your "main ones" going to be working on the Mac OS version you'd like to upgrade by visiting their websites.

Native Instrument's, East West Symphonic, Omnisphere, Trillian, Soundtoys, Fabfilter, Waves - these are the main ones i use. Is it possible, say i updated to big sur, then purchased Logic X - is it technically possible to slowly update all these plugins or is there a chance i could run into issues where it simply wouldn't work etc? Might be a hard question to answer i guess.

I get that this is my fault for waiting so long to upgrade. This is a good laptop spec'd well and buying a new one is a bit excessive right now, i feel like it might be a good option thought as tbh i do want to streamline things - there are plugins that i just dont and cant see my self using.

Tough one!
