Gamepad not working MacBook Air M1

I am having an issue with my gamepad. I purchased a Mac compatible 8BitDo gamepad for my MacBook Air M1.

The gamepad connects easily with Bluetooth, however it will not work on games. I have tried it on Fortnite but none of the buttons or joysticks work.

I tested the gamepad at the following site everything works perfectly, so I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have this issue as well, and it is with Gamepad that ARE fully supported by MacOS.

I have tried these controllers:

  • Xbox Wireless Controller with Bluetooth (Model 1708)
  • Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2
  • 8BitDO SN30+

All of these controllers pair fine to the Macbook. All of these controllers work with native apps on the Macbook (Asphalt for instance). All of these controller do NOT work for the following:

  • Anything on Epic Games (Including Fortnite)
  • Any Game on Steam (The Steam app itself works fine)
  • Nvidia Geforce NOW (Any game on the platform)

The lowest common denominator is my Macbook. It's not a developer issue. PLEASE resolve.

Hello gregzoe! Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.

We understand that you want to use your 8BitDo gamepad with your Mac; however, even though it will connect, it won't work in the games you're using it for. We'd like to look into this with you to see how we can help.

It's possible that the gamepad you're using isn't fully supported by macOS. You can see which controllers are supported with the following resource: Connect a wireless game controller to your Apple device

It's also possible that it could be an issue specific to Fortnite, for which, we'd recommend reaching out to the developers to inquire.

Make it a great day!
