Copying large files, fails over SMB to Windows

I have a windows xp machine that I use as the NAS for my home network. Windows XP SP3, and I share one folder on it, called NAS.
I connect to it from my Mac clients using SMB... everytime i copy a large file >3gb or so, the copy fails with Operation Failed message.
If I do the same file, via FTP, it works fine. so it seems like the issue is with the SMB client on Snow Leopard.
Has anyone seen anything like it ?

I did some more additional testing , 4 files
200mb
250mb
300mb
434 mb .... all MOV, imovie made files (not that it should matter)... but

1- selecting all the files and dragging to the nas share, the copy fails 20% of the way
2- selecting each file, 200, 250 went fine , the 300 went after 3 tries, and i never got the 434 to go
3 - switched to FTP, filezilla client on MAC and Filezilla Server on Windows, uploaded all files without a problem, with 2 open connections at a time
