Hi, I am not able to uncheck "encrypt iphone backup" in iTunes, because it's greyed out. No amount of uninstalling/reinstalling helps. It's not that I don't remember the password, I just don't want to have my backups encrypted in case anything happens.
Also tried on a Mac OS X fully updated and still - same thing. iTunes has it greyed out.
No existing backups or anything.
I would do a full restore, but I want to download my text messages first, and the programs that do that seem to only work if your backups are not encrypted!
Come on Apple give us a text message download utility.
it's mine. I solved it by deleting the encrypted backups, restoring as new and then reverting to an older backup (good thing I manually zipped them before so they didn't get deleted). Then, I could uncheck "encrypt".
iPhone syncing/backing up could be soo much better with some creative thinking. Apps need to have independent content backups as well.
I did a full restore and everything and it wound up telling me "this iphone requires encrypted backups" eventually. So that got me angry wondering why this didn't work. Hopefully this time it works 🙂
