I am in the market for a new MacBook with the M1 Chip. I am seeing vendors selling MacBook CTO Pro 13in for $1699.00. Are these new models or refurbished systems?

We are your fellow end users and have no way to know what a vendor is offering.

However, I have seen enough issues with shady third-party resellers and their Apple products that I cannot in good conscience encourage a shopper to buy from other than Apple or a real authorized reseller (there are "unauthorized authorized resellers" in some countries). Any cost savings will soon be offset by serious problems.

If the price is too good to be true...well there is a reason it triggered your internal warning system enough to ask here. Run away!

Compounding the issue is that COVID caused a huge demand for all tech gear, especially notebook computers, and this has set up fertile ground for scams and fraud involvig high-demands Apple products.

If you want to save money and still know you have genuine Apple product with a full and proper warranty, look at Apple's factory-direct refurbs. We have close to a dozen Apple refurb products in the family and all have been perfect:

Refurbished Mac - MacBook Pro - Apple

You need to check the page often as the stock changes hourly. Also, RAM and storage are NOT upgradeable after purchase, so buy what you need now. I cannot recommend buying one with an SSD smaller than 512GB based on the number of "ran out of space" issues we see posted here.

Good luck!
