Call to an emergency contact

What is the procedure for an iPhone 6 or 6S to make a call to an emergency contact? Apple Support only gives the "iPhone 8 or newer" solution, which is to press the side button and one of the volume buttons simultaneously - this does not work for an iPhone 6 or 6S

iPhone 6s, iOS 14

Hi there BP0013,

We understand you want to know how to use Emergency SOS on your iPhone.

Check out the "Call emergency services" section of the following page. About halfway through the section, you'll see "Here's how to make the call on iPhone 7 or earlier". Use Emergency SOS on your iPhone

When an emergency call ends, your emergency contacts will be notified via text, unless the action is cancelled.

We hope this helps!

Hi again BP0013,

If you haven't yet, you may be able to prevent future calls from accidentally being placed while your iPhone is in your pocket, by ensuring you have a passcode enabled. Use a passcode with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you already have a passcode enabled, let us know how you're identifying the calls were placed as an emergency call, rather than a standard call.

Cheers!

Thank you very much for your reply.

The reason I asked was not only for my own edification, but also because I wanted to know how my iPhone 6S managed to pocket-call my daughter in South Africa five (5) times in succession (she is first on the list of my emergency contacts on my iPhone - but has since been removed! :-) ). This prank by my iPhone has cost me quite a lot as the calls were made from Asia. Unfortunately, I was completely unaware of the calls being made.

I am still none the wiser as to how the 5 calls were made as the Apple Support link describes how to make an Emergency SOS call, and not how to call an emergency contact.

Hi there

My phone is passcode enabled! :-)

I have learned that to phone an emergency contact, the home button needs to be pressed so that the screen to enter the passcode appears. Then on the bottom left, there is an active word Emergency - when that is pressed, again at the bottom right, there is an active part called "Medical ID *" (in red). Once this is pressed, the person at the top of the list of the people entered as emergency contacts in the Health app is dialed. This, for me is the only logical explanation. That it happened is incredible, but my bill for the calls is real!

To phone my daughter otherwise means either bypassing the passcode screen, Which is seemingly impossible, or somehow my passcode is entered on the passcode screen, then the phone app is selected, and then my daughter's number is dialed, which is "+***********", where the *'s are all numbers and + signifies the international dialing code preceding a country code. To do this correctly 5 times in sequence is beyond the realm of possibilities.

If there is an easier explanation, then please share as I want to prevent it happening again! :-)
