Punctuation, auto capitalization not working

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max, and I recently updated to iOS 14.4.1. Since the update my auto capitalization, and punctuation is not working. I have tried doing a hard reset on my phone multiple times, and I’m still having the same issue. Any suggestions before I do a factory reset on my phone?

Hi stblevins85,

We understand you're experiencing some problems with Auto-Capitalization and Smart Punctuation not working on your iPhone. We're happy to help! To clarify, have you already tried turning these options off in Settings > General > Keyboard and then turning them back on? If so, do you have any third party keyboards installed? Does the behavior happen in all apps or just some?

We would prefer to try some less invasive troubleshooting steps before having you restore the iPhone to factory settings. Any additional details you can provide will put us in a better position to help.

Hi stblevins85,

Got it! When you restored the iPhone, did you use a computer and then set the iPhone up as new, or did you erase the iPhone directly from the device? The reason we ask is that using a computer will completely erase the iPhone including iOS, and then reinstall a fresh copy. Setting the iPhone up as new for testing purposes will tell us if the problem is with iOS.

Otherwise, erasing the iPhone from the device itself will erase the data but won't erase iOS. If the iPhone is then restored from a backup, the problem could return.

All the best.
