Time Machine after the factory version

Hi,

I just reinstalled my Mac to the factory version.

I have an external HDD I used for Time Machine.

Can I keep using the external HDD for Time Machine just with plug-in?

or

Should I erase or format it, before using it for Time Machine?

Hey there, Hosun.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! Thanks for posting about what to do after restoring a Time Machine backup onto your Mac. We'd be glad to help.

You can certainly continue using that same drive as a Time Machine backup source. If it's not already set that way in System Preferences > Time Machine, follow the steps in Back up your Mac with Time Machine to get that going.

If you need anything else, let us know.

Take care.

That's another great question, Hosun. We're happy to help.

Time Machine backups will run in the background, and you should be able to complete your normal tasks uninterrupted. You can certainly complete the backups at your leisure, but you can also complete whatever work you need at the same time.

Have a great day!
